| If you’d really like to learn about something you never even knew existed, check out some of these bizarre training courses offered by various universities and training institutions around the world. Some of them actually seem pretty interesting…• The Art of Walking – There’s a lot more to this strange sounding course, offered at liberal arts-focused Centre College in the USA. Students study the theories behind Immanuel Kant's “Critique of Judgment” while taking walking tours of various locations around campus. It’s one way to stop students falling asleep in the middle of class.• Underwater Basket Weaving – Originally a sarcastic phrase to describe useless university courses, Underwater Basket Weaving is now an actual course you can take at the US Scuba Centre, which has also trademarked the course. Other Universities around America have also offered the course on a one-off or short term basis.• Donkey Training – Ok, to be fair, this one was designed for RSPCA inspection workers in Australia to learn more about donkey welfare. They learn about things like donkey care and management, and the training includes a mix of practical and theory. Executive coaching for donkeys, perhaps?• The Joy of Garbage – This smelly-sounding course is offered at Santa Clara University and focuses on the science and consequences of what we consume and discard. The course involves excursions to environmental service destinations like landfills, sewage treatment plants, and electronic waste recycling facilities.• Philosophy of Ufology – While not actually a course in itself, in 2008 Melbourne University awarded one of its PhD students a doctorate in Philosophy of Ufology after his extensive research and thesis on UFOs.• Tree Climbing – If you’re already a tree-hugger, now you can climb them too! This course offered at Cornell University in the US is taught by someone who lived in a tree for 3 years, so you know you’re dealing with the experts. Those suffering from fear of heights should probably not enrol…If you prefer your training courses to be a little more traditional and focused on things like presentation skills or sales training, there are of course plenty of helpful business coaching courses with a little more practicality and everyday relevance. |
