Child booster seats are the last type of child restraint that your child will use. These types of car seats are for children who weigh between 15 and 36kg, which is approximately between 3 and 12 years old. Children can use the vehicle seat belt as the only restraint, the same as an adult would, once the child turns 12 years old or reach 135cm in height (depending on which happens first).
What Do Kids Booster Seats Do?
Child booster seats must be used in order to give your child a safe and more comfortable ride whilst travelling. The seat gives the child a boost so that they are at the correct height to wear the vehicle seatbelt. When fastening your child into the seat always ensure the belt is sitting over the shoulder and across the lap (not across the stomach).
When it comes to buying the child booster seat, you get a choice between the type with a back and headrest, or the type without the back and headrest. The best seats in my opinion are the ones with the head rest and back. These car seats will help to protect your child if a side impact road accident was to occur.
Do Children Need To Use Child Car Seats?
It is illegal for children to travel in your vehicle without the correct child restraint for their weight and height. Child booster seats are required to provide your child with maximum safety and comfort whilst travelling. Whether you and your child are going for a long drive or a short drive, your child MUST be securely fastened in their child booster seat. If you find that your child has a tantrum when you fasten them in their child seat, stay calm and remind yourself why you are having to force them into the seat. Tell them you love them and you want them to be safe while riding in the car.
