They charge during the day and emit light for the night time. Another option is low voltage lighting that can be fed from your landscape lighting transformer.

Sometimes, to keep cool, a fan would be nice and, believe it or not they make fans for your patio umbrellas and gazebos that can be plugged in or can be battery operated. When you don't want to turn your stereo up too loud, why not add some wireless speakers and hang them from your umbrella. They are typically battery operated.
