Hi! My name is Mike and thank you for your interest in Australia Links.
I was born and grew up in Australia, but once I graduated from university, I took off overseas to travel and work. I live in Japan, China and Indonesia.
In Indonesia I met my wife and we started a family. We had a good life running a guesthouse until Covid changed our lives. After the pandemic, to be closer to my family we decided to make the move back to Australia.

Returning back to Australia after many years living overseas, I experienced a kind of reverse culture shock – applying for jobs, finding a place to live, enrolling my kids in schools and sorting out a visa for my wife.
So even though I was born in Australia, I feel like I have some understanding of the challenges foreigners have moving to Australia. It is why I decided to start this site with the hope of helping anyone interested in finding out more about living in Australia.
